REVIEW: The Artist

March 20th, 2012 | by Jordan Petersen

The Artist is a good film. It's very watchable, and refreshingly optimistic and light-hearted. It's sweet and funny and lovable. But rather than being surpassingly masterful or toweringly important, it is simply a neat exercise, a loving "hats off" to a noble caste of films in the cinema history.

John Carter: The Anti-Review

In two and a half hours, so much happens to so many people and robots, it's essentially impossible to care about any of them. Though an improvement over the horrendous second film, director Michael Bay again establishes himself as a purveyor of cinematic fast food

REVIEW: X-Men: First Class

June 7th, 2011 | by Jordan Petersen

Both a period piece and a comic book movie, the film achieves a perfect mix of period atmosphere and superhero fantasy. X-Men: First Class looked like it was shaping up to be an apology for the last two X-Men films. Apology accepted.

REVIEW: Thor

May 15th, 2011 | by Jordan Petersen

Everyone is saying that Thor is very, very pretty — dazzling design and effects, perfectly integrated and executed. While the supporting characters aren't given much depth, this is the kind of film you can feel good about having enjoyed
