“Make Light” — Young Lyre
As an American anthropologist in New Zealand, I enjoy observing the culture I live in. I’ve found I’m quite fond of the music scene here. Here’s how a native New Zealander might describe this particularly delightful song:
North Cape to the Bluff, Aotearoa sure is capable of producing heaps of talented musicians. Among choice contemporary Kiwi artists such as Kimbra, The Naked and Famous and Avalanche City, I introduce you to Young Lyre — an alternative cardi-wearing rock band that could be compared to the likes of fun. or Neon Trees. The group’s newest track, “Make Light,” is sweet as, bro. Lolly to my ears! Not only will this song appeal to my fellow scarfies but to anklebiters and oldies as well. Music the whole whanau can enjoy! You might just be two sammies short of a picnic if it’s not to your liking. When I first heard this track, I thought it was excellent-as — but I was stoked to find out Young Lyre were Kiwis, I thought, “Get off the grass!” This track is golden. Give it a go!
